Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

HCS SB 666 -- LICENSE RENEWAL FOR MEMBERS OF THE MILITARY

SPONSOR: Scott (Day)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Special Committee on
Veterans by a vote of 11 to 0.

This substitute adds deaf interpreters, occupational therapists,
clinical perfusionists, dietitians, massage therapists, interior
designers, acupuncturists, and tattooists to the list of licensed
professionals who are allowed to extend their license renewal
with the Division of Professional Registration within the
Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions, and Professional
Registration while on active military duty.

An application for a driver's license for a person mobilized and
deployed with the United States armed forces is allowed to be
signed by the person who holds general power of attorney for the
applicant.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2008, FY 2009, and
FY 2010.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that many licensees are on active
duty serving overseas and are unable to renew their licenses at
the appropriate time. The bill allows the licensee to renew his
or her license after completion of his or her tour of duty.

Testifying for the bill was Representative Wasson for Senator
Scott.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
